Canadian MMA fans were surprised and excited last fall when MM-eh broke the exclusive news that Unified MMA was planning to hold their first show in Ontario in December.
Unified MMA 48 took place in Toronto on December 16th and was by all accounts a big success. The Sheraton Centre was packed with fans, the event was shared around the world on UFC Fight Pass, and most importantly, Unified MMA proved that they could coordinate and pull off a large show far away from their home base of Edmonton, Alberta.
At the time Unified MMA Owner Sunny Sareen told MM-eh that he was moving to Toronto to live for half of the year, and last week he stated “We’ll have an announcement for our return to Ontario next week with a massive lineup.”
That return is expected to be in Niagara Falls, possibly in June, and MM-eh has had several fighters acknowledge that they have been contacted and expect to be on that card.
MM-eh will not mention any names until confirmation of contracts being signed, but in the past few days Unified has announced multi-fight deals with Ontario based fighters Teshay Gouthro and Ergys Sigeta. Both fighters competed on the first Ontario card, so is it safe to assume that they’ll be on the next one as well? We’ll find out soon when Sareen makes his announcement.
In the meantime, Unified MMA 50 takes place this Friday and features a sold-out stacked card, headlined by a Super Welterweight Title Fight between American Fay Bursell and Canadian veteran Ryan Ford, who will be competing in MMA for the final time.
Go to MM-eh’s page for Unified 50 to see the full fight card, which is more accurate than what you’ll see on either Tapology or Sherdog, which still include one big-name fight that was recently dropped from the card.
