London, Ontario native Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout will be taking on UFC newcomer James Krause this Saturday, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship comes to Winnipeg, Manitoba for the very first time.

Stout last fought former Strikeforce competitor Caros Fodor at UFC 157, and welcomed the AMC Pankration fighter to the UFC with a split decision loss.

According to Sam, he could have done better in that fight.

“I’m happy with my performance [in the fight against Fodor] because I got the win,” He told MM-eh, “but that being said I think I could have done better — I just wish I had a little more gas in the tank.”

Any good fighter knows the importance of growing from past experience.  Stout discusses how he has tailored his training camp to ensure he is in optimal fighting form for UFC 161.

Duncan, BC native John “The Natural” Alessio (34-16) has been signed to Bellator MMA, and will likely be making his first appearance for that organization in their fall lightweight tournament.

This is good news for the 33-year-old Alessio, who went through both highs, then lows in 2012.  First, after a vocal campaign he finally made his return to the UFC after having been released in 2006, but unfortunately for him two losses to Mark Bocek and Shane Roller meant that once again he was ousted from the world’s largest MMA organization.

Before he can fight for Bellator, however, his next fight will be against Tim Radcliffe at Global Warrior Challenge on June 29.

A middleweight match-up between old and new TUF veterans is scheduled for the inaugural UFC on Fox Sports on August 17, as Calgary’s Nick “The Promise” Ring (13-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will take on Uriah Hall (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

Calgary’s Ring trains at Champions Creed MMA and was featured on The Ultimate Fighter Season 11, and has since gone 3-2 within the promotion, notching wins over Riki Fukuda, James Head, and Court McGee, but is coming off a loss in his most recent fight against Chris Camozzi at UFC 158 in March.

After knocking out three consecutive opponents during his run during TUF 17, Hall was the favourite going into the live finale against Kelvin Gastelum, however he was not able to punish him like he had his previous opponents, dropping a split decision for his first loss in four fights.

Sherdog.com is reporting that Isaac Vallie-Flagg has suffered a back injury and will no longer be able to fight London, Ontario’s Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout at UFC 161 in Winnipeg on June 15.

The UFC has not made an official announcement yet, nor has a potential replacement for Vallie-Flagg been identified.

Stout, who trains at London’s Adrenaline Training Center, is known for his high-energy striking style, and is coming off a win over Caros Fodor at UFC 157 in February.

What a difference two minutes makes.
